Off the Record (OTR)

Matthews visiting Packers

It wasn’t long ago that yours truly was declaring former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver to be a true No. 1 wide receiver. And at that time in Week 1 of the 2015 season, I really felt he was.

It turns out, he’s a very nice player, but he’s never going to be a true No. 1. He’s a very nice slot player who can absolutely help an offense, but I think we’ve seen his ceiling and he’s never going to be someone who can carry an offense.

After being traded to the Buffalo Bills this offseason, he’s now a free agent.

And according to Adam Schefter, he was most recently visiting the Green Bay Packers.

“Former Bills’ and Eagles’ WR Jordan Matthews visited today with the Green Bay Packers, per source,” tweets Schefter.

Matthews could be a nice, cost-effective solution to the Packers WR core. He’s only 25-years old and could flourish to some extent with Aaron Rodgers. I can’t imagine he’d break the bank.

Of course, I’d love to know who would get more slot work with Randall Cobb already there. Matthews has not proven to be very effective on the outside in his career.
