Lions add Blount

LeGarrette Blount has had the hot hand lately. He won a Super Bowl title with the New England Patriots after the 2016 NFL season after he ran for 18 TDs in the regular season. He followed it up with an encore performance with the Philadelphia Eagles as they won their first Super Bowl championship ever in 2017.

That said, he was still on a one-year deal and became a free agent just months after hoisting the Lombardi trophy for the second consecutive time.

So, what now? Well, he had a very nice postseason and he’s been in a bit more demand this offseason than he was last offseason (there was virtually no interest in him last year). And, according to Ian Rapoport, the Detroit Lions have pounced.

“The #Lions are signing FA RB LeGarrette Blount to a 1-year deal worth $4.5M, source said. He’s back with Matt Patricia, as the New England ties are strong,” Rapoport tweets.

It makes sense. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time the Lions had a big back. They love those undersized Ameer Abdullah and Reggie Bush guys, and haven’t had a bruiser in a while.

Maybe their team identity is about to change under new head coach Matt Patricia?
