Eagles add Ngata

The Philadelphia Eagles just won the Super Bowl. It’s not uncommon for Super Bowl champions to get completely dismantled following the title as other teams raid their players and coaches.

While the Eagles have lost some people, including offensive coordinator Frank Reich (Indianapolis Colts head coach) and most recently, tight end Tre Burton (four years, $32 million from the Chicago Bears). But, for the most part, they have most of their roster signed through the next few years and are even getting guys back like Carson Wentz and Sidney Jones.

Not only that, they are adding to their stable to players. They already traded for Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett, and now they’ve signed another d-lineman to their rotation.

According to Adam Schefter, the Eagles have signed Haloti Ngata.

“Former Lions’ DT Haloti Ngata intends to sign a one-year deal with Eagles, per @mortreport and me,” Schefter tweets.

Yes, Ngata is 34-years old and his best years are behind him. But, they aren’t signing him to be a stud. They need him to rotate out with Timmy Jernigan and be a situational guy. This surely means that Beau Allen will walk in free agency.

Ngata only played in five games last year with the Detroit Lions, but he won’t be asked to shoulder the load in Philly.
