Off the Record (OTR)

What to do with Kevin White?

Since being selected with the No. 7-overall pick in 2015, Chicago Bears wide receiver Kevin White has played in five more NFL games than I have. Coming out of West Virginia, this guy looked like a beast who was going to wreck NFL defenses.

Well, what’s the complete opposite of “wreck NFL defenses?”

This is a make-or-break year for White and the Bears will surely bring in other receivers this offseason through the draft and free agency. I mean, that cupboard is bare.

For what it’s worth, White has been working out this offseason with quarterback Mitch Trubisky, fine tuning his routes and quickness in California.

“Kevin is working really hard to get back,” said Trubisky. “I know he’s busting his tail to really do big things this year.”

Sounds great, Mitch.

White is also rehabbing a shoulder injury that he suffered in 2017, which is just the latest in a long line of injuries that has kept him from playing football. He could be the best wide receiver in history and no one would know it because he can’t stay on the field.

At this point, White would be found money for the Bears if it turns out he can really play and stay healthy. I wouldn’t bank too much on that.
