Smith threw soup at a coach…seriously

The Philadelphia 76ers won an impressive victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night in Cleveland. In what could be a possible playoff preview – Sixers are No. 6 right now, the Cavaliers are No. 3 – we saw what looked like it would be a nice battle in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs…if the Cavs were without J.R. Smith.

Last night, the Cavs were sans Smith, who was serving a one-game suspension.

Why was he suspended? Sources tell ESPN that it was because he threw soup at assistant coach Damon Jones. Seriously. From ESPN:

Cavaliers guard JR Smith earned his one-game suspension from the team Thursday by throwing a bowl of soup at assistant coach Damon Jones, multiple sources with knowledge of the incident told ESPN.

Smith will be back at practice on Friday and let’s just hope the entire thing blows over. I’m not exactly sure what enraged Smith to throw soup at his coach, or what type of container the soup was in or if he just flung the soup from his spoon in Jones’ general direction. We can only hope those details emerge at some point.
