Bortles gets paid

There has been a lot of talk – maybe too much talk – about what the Jacksonville Jaguars will do at quarterback moving forward. Yes, they have former first-round pick Blake Bortles, but they also have former first-round pick Blake Bortles.

There was talk about the Jaguars possibly being interested in soon-to-be free agent Kirk Cousins, but we can probably squash that talk now.

According to Adam Schefter, the Jags have decided to lock up Bortles for a period of time that will surely irritate everyone in Jacksonville.

“Jaguars are giving QB Blake Bortles a new three-year, $54 million deal, worth up to $66.5M with incentives, that includes $26.5M guaranteed, tying him to Jacksonville through the 2020 season, per source.

Jacksonville out of QB market,” Schefter tweets.

We’ll see how this works out. Bortles was showing serious signs of promise after being drafted third overall in 2014, but then regressed to the point of people talking about signing Kirk Cousins. He was better this past season, but still a question mark.

Good luck, Jacksonville.
