Mets agree to deal with Vargas

The New York Mets have added a nice piece to their starting rotation. According to Jon Heyman, the Mets have agreed to a two-year deal with Jason Vargas, formerly of the Kansas City Royals.

“Sources: Mets and Jason Vargas have a deal pending physical,” Heyman tweets.

It’s a two-year deal believed to be worth $16 million. The 35-year old Vargas will become their fifth starter in the rotation and will be their only left hander.

Vargas made his first All Star team last year with a 2.62 ERA over 17 starts. That’s pretty remarkable and makes you think he might be on something to all of a sudden be that good that late in his career.

The Mets will maintain a club option for 2020.
