Off the Record (OTR)

Of course Marrone is worried

The Jacksonville Jaguars beat the Buffalo Bills on Sunday 10-3 and will advance to the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. Now, raise your hand if you said at the beginning of the season that the Jaguars would win a playoff game this year. Now, raise your hand if you thought they’d even make the playoffs. Now, raise your hand if you thought they’d be little more than a drooling mess. That’s what I thought.

The Jags would have been something of a drooling mess on Sunday if we just looked at their offense.

Blake Bortles is…I’m really not sure what to say about him. Very good chance he’s a good guy. But, man was he a hatchet job against the Bills. In fairness, the Bills have a good defense, but this was beyond that. Bortles couldn’t hit wide open guys on screen passes with no pressure on him. Yeah, that bad.

After the game, head coach Doug Marrone was asked if he’s concerned about the offense moving forward as they head to Pittsburgh to play the Steelers.

“We never really got into a rhythm and weren’t able to get anything on third down,” Marrone said. “I’d be a fool to sit here and say I’m not concerned, but I’m going to take a step back and go ahead and look at it again. Obviously, if you want to continue to keep playing, you’re going to have to do a better job.”

They might want to consider bringing back David Garrard. Someone, anyone. Even if they are bad. They absolutely have no shot to beat the Steelers if Bortles plays like he did today.

It’s not just that he was brutal, it’s that it also destroys Leonard Fournette and the running game when there is no chance of Bortles hurting you in the air.

Then again, they should probably be happy to just be here. Then again, they’ve already beaten the Steelers this year so maybe lightning can strike twice. Their defense is nasty, but I’m not sure it’s enough to overcome Blake.
