Braves release Gonzalez

Over the weekend, the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers swapped a few bad contract. One man’s trash, as they say.

The Braves got one-time stud Adrian Gonzalez, with no one really thinking he’d stick around. He won’t. According to Mark Bowman, the Braves cut him on Tuesday.

“The Braves officially released Adrian Gonzalez today,” tweets Bowman.

Gonzalez used to be a high-end masher. But, at 35-years old, I’m not sure how much he has left in the tank. In 2017, he played in only 71 games due to back issues, and hit just .242 with three home runs. Not the kind of production you’d expect.

No matter who signs him, the Braves are covering the $22+ million that he’s owed, so it would be a low-risk signing to add him to your training camp. I’m guessing he’ll go to the American League where he can DH.
