Jets hate Hackenberg

Last year, the New York Jets selected Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg in the second round of the NFL Draft. No one is exactly sure why as Hackenberg didn’t look like anything resembling a good quarterback since his freshman year when Bill O’Brien was there.

But, they did. And apparently, they are already so sour on him that he’s not seen a single regular season snap, despite the Jets sucking to the point where it would be easy to let him get in there and try.

Now, with Josh McCown hurt and the Jets awful and facing a difficult schedule, the Jets still have no plans to play him for the remainder of the season barring an injury to Bryce Petty.

“We got people at every position that want to play,” head coach Todd Bowles said. “We’re not jumping people over people just to play considering anything. Bryce is our starter.”

Since Petty stinks too, it’s likely that he’ll stink when he goes out on the field for the rest of the season. One would think that Bowles would have to get Hackenberg in there at some point, right? At least to show the world “see? this is why we didn’t play him.”?

Regardless, the Jets have clearly seen enough of Hackenberg in preseason and practices to know that he simply can’t play.
