Pedroia out until June?

The Boston Red Sox are going to be without Dustin Pedroia for quite some time. The 34-year old had a pretty good season this year batting .293 (with virtually no power), but he could be looking at not returning to baseball until early June next season.

On Wednesday, Pedroia had cartilage restoration surgery and according to Tim Britton of the Providence Journal, he’s going to be out a while.

“Red Sox estimate Pedroia’s return to games in approximately seven months,” Britton tweets.

Ouch. That’s going to be a long time. I’m not sure who the Red Sox would replace him with, but maybe Mookie is a possibility? We’ll see what happens, but it’s not going to help the Sox early on in 2018.

Pedroia is still owed $56 million on a contract that runs through 2021.
