Smallwood will get increased load

This is kind of stating the obvious, but I don’t feel like writing anything terribly brilliant at the moment so I’m going to pass along some fantasy football news.

The Philadelphia Eagles offense (and special teams for that matter) took a hit on Sunday in their win over the New York Giants. They lost their Swiss Army Knife in Darren Sproles to a broken arm and torn ACL. Not good.

So, who will pick up his share of the work load? Offensive coordinator Frank Reich said that a lot of that will absolutely be picked up by second-year man Wendell Smallwood.

“Frank Reich says there’s no doubt Wendell Smallwood will have an increased role with Darren Sproles out. 3rd down RB. #Eagles,” tweets Brandon Lee Gowton from Bleeding Green Nation.

Surely, LeGarrette Blount will continue to handle early down and goal line work, especially if he runs like he did against the Giants. A guy that big reaching the second level frequently gets old real quick for a defense. But, Smallwood should handle most everything else as they work Corey Clement into the fold. He got into the end zone on Sunday and should be in line for some burn too.

You can grab Smallwood in your league if you want, but this is kind of a week-to-week nightmare. Don’t forget there is always the chance that Dougie doesn’t run the ball at all.
