Browns cut Pryor

Remember that time Calvin Pryor was a highly coveted safety in the 2014 NFL Draft? I remember Philadelphia Eagles fans being super disappointed that they didn’t get Pryor or Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, and then even more disappointed when the team drafted Marcus Smith. Rough night.

But, while drafting Smith was a colossal mistake, it would have also been a huge misstep to take Pryor. He’s so bad that the terrible New York Jets dumped him off to the Cleveland Browns this past offseason, and now it appears that even the woeful Browns don’t want him. Side note: To be fair to the Browns, I think they are getting better. Some of the top sites listed at My Top Sportsbooks have the Browns as only a nine-point dog this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Say what you want, that’s progress!

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Browns are parting ways with Pryor after a fight broke out before practice with another teammate.

“Sources: #Browns are expected to release S Calvin Pryor just a few days before the opener after a fight with a teammate before practice,” Rapoport tweets.

This is not good news for Pryor. Either he did something really horrific in this fight, or he’s just so terrible as a player that the team said screw it and kicked him to the curb. If he was a good player – again, assuming he didn’t like pull a knife or something – they’d overlook it. Fights happen all the time amongst football teammates. But, when you suck, you get cut.

The Browns will move forward with Derrick Kindred and first-round pick Jabrill Peppers as their safeties. I would assume – again, depending on what happened – that Pryor has another stop or two in the NFL before he’s out of the league.
