Matthews should be good for Week 1

When the Buffalo Bills traded with the Philadelphia Eagles for Jordan Matthews, I figured it had to be more about the third-round pick that they acquired. They already had Sammy Watkins, Anquan Boldin and Zay Jones, whom they drafted in the second round this year.

Then they traded Watkins that same day and then Boldin retired a week later, so it turns out they really need Matthews.

However, Matthews busted his chest in his first practice with the Bills so that has left his availability for Week 1 in doubt. And while he won’t play in the preseason, head coach Sean McDermott says that Matthews is doing well and on track to be ready for the opener.

“Jordan Matthews has been making great progress throughout the last week. He consistently stays after practice to get reps with the QBs,” McDermott said.

Matthews should be the first Bills wide receiver off the board in your fantasy draft. However, don’t ignore Zay Jones. Yes, you can get him late, but he’s not a late-round flier type of guy. He can actually produce. Whether he does as the second option with Tyrod Taylor throwing the ball remains to be seen, but watching him play, he looks like he’s going to be a player.
