Mets shutting Matz down

The New York Mets were in the World Series not all that long ago. But, you wouldn’t know it from their record this year. They are 20.5 games out of first place with September rapidly approaching. The season is over.

I’m sure that influenced their decision on Steven Matz. Matz has been pitching with discomfort all season with nerve irritation in his elbow. Welp, it’s time to shut it down.

“Breaking: Mets say Matz is scheduled to undergo surgery for irritation of ulnar nerve in his left elbow. Season is over,” tweets Matt Ehalt.

It would seem like that discomfort contributed to his 6.07 ERA over 13 starts this year. He should be fine, for what it’s worth Jacob deGrom had the same surgery last year and was fine for the start of this season. So, if all goes well, Matz should be okay for the beginning of 2018.

The Mets couldn’t be more injured this year if they tried. They need to get everyone healthy and have another go at this thing next year.
