Bortles losing the job

It was only a couple of years ago that Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles was developing into the next start quarterback in the NFL. He was looking every bit the part of a guy drafted with the third-overall pick.

Then 2016 happened. And it was like…what? He was awful, generating stats only in garbage time after the team had fallen way behind.

In 2017? Even more awful. He looked so bad in Thursday night’s preseason game that head coach Doug Marrone refused to say he was the definite Week 1 starter for the Jaguars.

“It’s this simple: I’m looking for the best person to lead this offense,” Marrone began. “It’s right up there for grabs, and either person can take it. … (Bortles has) got to go earn it.”

Want more proof that the Jags are sick of Bortles? Career backup Chad Henne entered the game Thursday night and the Jags left all of the starting linemen and wide receivers in with him. They clearly wanted to get a look at Henne with the one’s. For what it’s worth, Henne was 6-for-10 for 44 yards, hardly a huge upgrade.

It’s to the point where beat reporter Ryan O’Halloran has stated that Marrone is pretty much handing the job to Henne.

This is bad. Very bad. The Jaguars will continue to be a joke of a franchise. They need to spend another high pick on a quarterback because – in case you hadn’t noticed – Chad Henne is not the answer.
