Carr is about to set the QB market

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is entering the final year of his rookie contract. As well as he played last year (until he broke his ankle in the last game), does anyone really think he’ll hit the free agent market?

Of course not.

And Adam Schefter is reporting that the two sides are about to finalize a huge contract.

“Raiders and Derek Carr are close to finalizing a deal expected to pay their quarterback about $25 million per year, per league sources,” Schefter tweets.

You think Kirk Cousins and Matthew Stafford will be paying attention to these numbers? I don’t think Cousins is in Carr’s category, but Stafford is. Regardless, this is what the going rate will be for franchise quarterbacks, surpassing Andrew Luck’s some $24 million per year.
