Pivetta outduels Sale

The Philadelphia Phillies have absolutely no business beating the Boston Red Sox. Whether it’s a shootout or a pitcher’s duel, the Phillies don’t have the firepower.

But, by some miraculous reason, the Phillies out lasted the Red Sox at Citizens Bank Park Thursday night to get a 1-0 win.

And it was no fault of Sox starter Chris Sale. He pitched a complete game giving up one run while striking out 10. He even hit a double in the eighth inning and reached third base with one out, but they couldn’t get him home. By every stretch of the imagination, Sale pitched a gem.

On the other hand, Phillies youngster Nick Pivetta was splendid as well. Phillies pitchers have been garbage this year, struggling to get out of the fifth inning. Pivetta pitched seven scoreless while striking out nine and scattering four hits.

The Phillies have been a colossal disappointment this year, maybe Pivetta can be a source of hope. Dude has stuff!

Too bad he didn’t get the win.
