Smith getting benched?

The Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t been competitive so far in the NBA Finals. The Golden State Warriors with this year’s version that includes Kevin Durant, have been choking them out through the first two games to take a 2-0 series lead.

This is not on LeBron James. He – again – needs help. And I can tell you he ain’t getting if from J.R. Smith.

In Game 1, Smith scored three points in 28 minutes. That’s not helping much. But, he managed to be even worse in Game 2. He scored no points in fourteen minutes while accruing four fouls. He was a minus 18 overall, tied with Tristan Thompson.

So, it’s quite possible that the Cavs bench J.R. Smith and start Iman Shumpert. I’m not sure that’s a huge upgrade because if Shumpert was that much better, he’d be playing over Smith to begin with.

But, down 2-0, coach Tyronn Lue has to do something. He doesn’t have time to wait for Smith to get it going.
