Mets looking at Fister?
- Updated: April 7, 2017
Doug Fister last pitched for the Houston Astros. The 33-year old went 12-13 last year with a 4.64 ERA. Not great, but not the end of the world either.
But, it wasn’t that long ago (2014) that he went 16-6 with a 2.41 ERA for the Washington Nationals. He’s had other incredible years as well. But, how far are they behind him? The New York Mets are possibly hoping that he’s got another good one in him.
Currently a free agent, Fister is looking for a Major League contract. So far, no one has offered one; he hasn’t pitched at all this spring. But, according to Jon Heyman, the Mets “have looked at” Fister.
They might have to. Steven Matz is dealing with a forearm issue, Seth Lugo is hoping to avoid Tommy John surgery and is anyone counting on Zach Wheeler’s health? He hasn’t pitched since 2014, although he did finish spring training pretty well.
Fister might be a nice addition to the Mets rotation and they might not have any other choices. Doesn’t seem like he does either.
