Eagles interested in Wheaton?
- Updated: March 9, 2017
The Philadelphia Eagles are absolutely dreadful at wide receiver and they know it. Dogs know it.
They’ve already taken a step in the right direction, signing former San Francisco 49ers speedster Torrey Smith to a three-year, $15 million deal. Smith is kind of a one-trick, nine-route pony, but they need someone to stretch the defense, and he isn’t expensive.
As you might have imagined, Smith doesn’t fix their wide receiver situation. So, they will continue to look at other cost-effective solutions. According to Jason La Canfora, that could include former Pittsburgh Steeler Markus Wheaton.
“Eagles continue to explore various WRs, ex Steeler Markus Wheaton among them,” La Canfora tweets.
He wouldn’t change much, but would add depth. And the Eagles have absolutely none. Remember this is a fan base that was excited when Paul Turner was activated off of the practice squad late in the year. Yes, it was that bad. Turner is an okay player, but when you’re excited about a guy coming off the practice squad, things aren’t good.
