Eagles going after Jeffery? Dumb
- Updated: February 11, 2017
The Philadelphia Eagles are in desperate need of several wide receivers. Outside of Jordan Matthews – who will never ever ever be elite – they have a bunch of garbage at the position.
So, it’s easy to link them to potential free agents this upcoming offseason. One name that has been bandied about is Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. He’s excellent when healthy and not suspended. But, he’s been unhealthy and suspended recently so that has to be taken into account.
NFL insider Jason La Canfora nonetheless cited sources in tossing Jeffery’s name out there in connection to the Eagles.
“Several league sources anticipate the Eagles being in on Alshon Jeffery (Bears) and Philadelphia was aggressive in exploring trade options in-season on other receivers as well, like Torrey Smith (San Francisco), and they need to add more than one pass catcher this offseason,” La Canfora writes.
I thought we were done with throwing a ton of free agent Band Aids at the roster. It really hasn’t worked at the wide receiver position since Kevin Curtis in 2007. He wasn’t great, but he was definitely a nice player. Steve Smith, Rueben Randle, Chris Givens, the trade for DGB…all just guys. What will Jeffery cost? How many games will he give you? What’s the likelihood of another suspension?
I love Alshon Jeffery when he’s on the field, I’m just not sure how often that will be.
