Gruden cleans the defensive house

The Washington Redskins missed the playoffs again. Yet again, they were just another team. Not awful, but not great either.

And Jay Gruden has made his thoughts clear on where a big problem may lie: the defense.

Gruden has fired defensive coordinator Joe Barry, after yet another season of being poor on that side of the ball. They absolutely couldn’t stop anyone running the ball and they weren’t much better against the pass.

So, it’s not all that shocking that he told Barry not to let the door hit him. However, Gruden took it a step farther and fired all of the defensive assistants too. He completely cleaned house on that side of the ball and will be letting the next defensive coordinator – presumably – bring in a bunch of guys (and girls) with him.

I’ll be curious to see his short list of candidates for the role.
