Phillies acquire Buchholz

I’m not sure if this is a great move for the Philadelphia Phillies, but they certainly didn’t give up a ton.
The Phillies sent 2B prospect Josh Tobias to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Clay Buchholz. Buchholz wasn’t very good last year and even lost his spot in the rotation for a bit, but the Phillies are banking on him bouncing back and pitching like he did several years ago.
Buchholz had a 4.78 ERA last year, which isn’t good. But, the 32-year old only costs $13.5 million for this year and a bounce-back year isn’t out of the question as he’s up and down from year to year.
Maybe he pitches well and you deal him to a contending team at the deadline. Who knows? Who cares? You traded a guy from Single-A to get him.
The Phillies rotation could be Jeremy Hellickson, Buchholz, Aaron Nola, Jerad Eichoff and Vincent Velasquez next season. That’s not contender stuff, but you could win a few games.
