Bortles won’t get benched by guy getting fired

Remember that time that Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles was looked at as an up-and-coming quarterback who was on his way to being a star? Yeah, that time might over or, at the very least, shelved for the moment.

Bortles was at it again yesterday in a loss to the Houston Texans. He was 32/49 passing with two touchdowns and an awful interception that turned into a pick six.

“I’ve got to throw it earlier or move on and get off the first read and get it to somebody else,” Bortles said “I thought it was a pretty good play on his part, but you never want to start a game like that. If I had to do it over again, I would have gotten off of him, because even if Hurns catches it, it would have been fourth and one. I mean, not a smart play.”

It was bad and it’s to the point where soon-to-be-fired head coach Gus Bradley is getting asked repeatedly about whether he’s considered benching Bortles for Chad Henne.

“Bradley: “I don’t see anything in the future where Blake Bortles is not our guy.” And that settles that. #Jaguars,” tweets writer Eugene Frenette.

Sure, why not? What does Bradley care? His job status is really week to week and it’s not looking good. Whether he benches him or not, it won’t matter. A benching would surely hurt his confidence, but it can’t be good for his self-esteem that he’s out on the field playing terribly.

Jacksonville is a mess yet again.
