Tunsil sued by stepfather…again
- Updated: April 27, 2016
Of all the things that Ole’ Miss offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil wants to be thinking about right now, another lawsuit from his stepfather isn’t one of them. Yes, I said “another.”
Apparently, there was an incident last June involving Tunsil’s stepfather Lindsey Miller. Last year, they each sued each other over it. Both suits were eventually dropped and now this latest one has popped up the day before Tunsil will get selected high to quite high in the NFL Draft.
Miller’s suit cites “intentional infliction of emotional distress.”
Here’s the story from Yahoo:
An arrest report obtained by the Clarion-Ledger said the fight was over Miller warning Tunsil about having contact with agents. The lawsuit said Tunsil’s mother and Miller had a heated argument about contact with agents, and Miller alleged that after that argument Tunsil rushed into the house and attacked him. Miller claims that Tunsil fabricated the part about defending his mother to Ole Miss coaches, and Miller says that Tunsil defamed him when he claimed Miller assaulted his wife. The new lawsuit by Miller says he is suing on grounds of “past, present, and future bodily injury, pain & suffering, severe emotional distress, medical costs, damage to reputation, and/or other types of damages that he has incurred (and will likely continue to incur),” the Clarion-Ledger reported.
I wasn’t there so I don’t know what happened. I just think the timing here is awfully curious. Tunsil was supposed to be the No. 1-overall pick in this year’s draft until the Tennessee Titans traded it out of it. Now, the top two picks are going to be quarterbacks so it looks like Tunsil’s ceiling is the three pick. Regardless, he’s about to cash in and get paid pretty well.
I’m wondering if Miller’s attorneys had him file before the payday so that he can stake some claim to it. I know nothing about how lawsuits work or lawyers or the law in general, so take that with a grain of salt. I just imagine that one could surmise that there is something to this timing.
