“No real progress” in Norman talks

One of the best cornerbacks in the NFL is a free agent this offseason. Carolina Panthers corner Josh Norman played lights out this year and will likely land a big deal on the open market from the Panthers or someone else.

That is, if he ever hits the open market. ESPN’s David Newton says there is “no real progress” in contract talks and the team could be forced to tag him.

“No real progress between the Panthers and cornerback Josh Norman on a long-term deal,” Newton writes. “Expect the franchise tag to be placed on the 2015 Pro Bowl selection by the deadline tomorrow.”

That franchise tag will run the Panthers about $13.952 million. A steep price for sure, but it will also give them until July 15th to work out something more long term.

I can’t see anyway how Norman would hit the open market.
