Perez rips Indians’ ownership
The Cleveland Indians are 16.5 games out of first place. Some would say that they are out of the division race at this point in September. The Detroit Tigers are just one game back of the division-leading Chicago White Sox, and Indians closer Chris Perez thinks he knows why.
Foxsports.com asked him specifically why the Tigers are in it and the Indians aren’t.
“Different owners,” Perez said. “It comes down to that. They (the Tigers) are spending money. He (Tigers owner Mike Ilitch) wants to win. Even when the economy was down (in Detroit), he spent money. He’s got a team to show for it. You get what you pay for in baseball. Sometimes you don’t. But most of the time you do.”
We’re sure to quite sure that Perez’s bosses in Cleveland will be thrilled with his public thrashing of ownership. Even if, deep down, they know he’s right.
Maybe the dude just really wants to be traded.
