Starks on the roster bubble in Green Bay?
James Starks entered this training camp as the No. 1 running back for the Green Bay Packers. However, he’s been battling turf toe and didn’t look all that great before that.
But, he couldn’t really be in danger of losing his roster spot, could he? Is it possible he could get cut?
According to Rob Reischel of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, that answer could be “yes.” Reischel looks at the Packers roster and writes that Starks could indeed be a casualty this training camp season.
The surprise here would be the Packers giving up on Starks, their No. 1 back early in camp. But injuries have limited Starks to just 16 games his first two years, and he’s out again with a turf toe. Dating back to his days at Buffalo, Starks has missed time five straight years. At some point, his inability to stay on the field will cost him. The guess is it’s now.
Wow. I don’t think many saw that as a possibility when camp started. The team added Cedric Benson and it looks like they’ll ride with him as their starter. It would also seem that they are going to keep Brandon Saine and Alex Green.
That could leave Starks as the odd man out. If that did happen, it’s likely that another team would give him a shot.
