Richardson might not play Week 1
The Cleveland Browns took Alabama RB Trent Richardson with the No. 4-overall pick in this year’s draft. They were hoping to get more out of him by now, but he’s had his knee scoped and that’s set him back.
But, it was thought that he would still be available against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1. However, according to GM Mike Holmgren, there seems to be a good chance that he won’t play.
“If it goes according to schedule and there are no setbacks, there’s a chance he could be ready to play in the first game,” Holmgren said. “As a coaching staff and as an organization you have to be really smart in how you do that.
“As much as we’d all love to see him play, and are looking forward to him playing, we can’t rush him back in before he’s ready.”
So, it sounds like, even if he does play, he won’t get a ton of work. That could be left to Montario Hardesty and Brandon Jackson. That could be a big deal because there is a reason the Browns took a RB that high…they don’t run the ball well.
Who knows? We’re still weeks away from the start of the season. Maybe he’s fine by then. Or…maybe not.
