Dolphins cut Chad Johnson

Many people – for good reason – did not like that Miami Dolphins WR Chad Johnson was arrested on Saturday night for head-butting his wife and leaving her with a three-inch gash on her forehead.

Someone else didn’t like it either: the Miami Dolphins. According to Jay Glazer, the Dolphins have severed ties with Johnson.

“The Miami Dolphins have just released Chad Johnson, scouts cleaned out his locker,” tweets Glazer.

I don’t think anyone is completely surprised. The Dolphins were obviously livid with the situation, because they can’t afford to be losing any wide receiver talent. I wouldn’t have been shocked if they glossed over the situation so he could remain with the team. But, indeed, they did the right thing.

This comes after we saw how pissed off Joe Philbin was at Johnson last week on HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” when Johnson conducted an expletive-laden press conference.

It’s going to be tough for Johnson to find work playing in the NFL. His best bet is to wait and try to let the firestorm die down and then maybe find work on television somewhere. If the backlash quells, that could happen. There are still a lot of people who think he is hysterical (us included, although his actions Saturday night were reprehensible). Just never discount the idea that people want ratings.
