Phillies unload Pence and Victorino
The first half of this season did not go well for the Philadelphia Phillies. They continued to lose and injuries mounted up. In short, it just wasn’t happening this year after winning the NL East every year since 2007.
So, the question became in Philly, ‘are they buyers or sellers at the deadline?’ Do they get bullpen help and hold on to the notion that they have a shot? Or sell their expensive players and rebuild for next year?
Looks like they are sellers.
The team has traded Shane Victorino to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a pair of right handers in Josh Lindblom and Ethan Martin. In a more shocking move, the team has also shipped Hunter Pence to the San Francisco Giants, but it’s not known who they got in return at this point.
I’m not sure who the hell the Phillies plan to play in the outfield for the next couple of years. They did call up Dom Brown, but so f’ing what? Maybe they plan to make a big run at Michael Bourne. We’ll see. But, what we do know, is that Phillies baseball is over for this season.
