When will Dom Brown get called up?

DomonicBrown 300x135 When will Dom Brown get called up?It’s probably safe to say that the bloom on Domonic Brown’s rose is either gone, or at the very least, very much depreciated. Once considered a top 5 prospect by just about every publication that rates such things, he’s struggled at the MLB level and hasn’t been great at AAA Lehigh Valley this year.

However, he’s played well as of late. Since returning from the DL, he’s gone 8-for-22 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI’s in six games.

So, at some point, doesn’t he deserve to get called up?

Trade rumors are flying fast and furious regarding Shane Victorino, with one potential suitor (the New York Yankees) most likely dropping out of that race after acquiring Ichiro. To a lesser extent, there have been a few whispers regarding Hunter Pence as well, but the Phillies wouldn’t be so wise to move him.

The bottom line is that the Phillies, who are by all accounts not making the playoffs this year, need to find out what they really have in Brown for next year. Can he be counted on to be a regular contributor even if he’ll never achieve superstar status as many had hoped? Can they move on from free-agent-to-be Shane Victorino this offseason and use Brown as an important piece in the outfield?

He needs to get called up soon so they can try to play him everyday and see what he really is.
