Gee could miss the rest of the season

DillonGee 300x199 Gee could miss the rest of the seasonThe New York Mets have been one of the surprises of the 2012 season. They are six games over five hundred and in third place in the National League East, back just 4.5 games.

But they still aren’t a great team and can’t afford to take on much water. And that could be what’s happening.

Sources tell ESPNNewYork.com that starter Dillon Gee will need shoulder surgery to fix an artery. And it could possibly end his season.

It’s bad news for Mets fans. Gee has been pitching pretty darn well this year. He had a 4.10 ERA with a 6-7 record. No, he’s not Clayton Kershaw, but he’s not remotely a bum either.

Gee is scheduled to resume throwing in 6-8 weeks. He probably wouldn’t return unless the Mets make the playoffs. But, his long-term health is way more important.
