Sixers to amnesty Elton Brand
There has been a lot of speculation about the Philadelphia 76ers were going to do with guys like Lou Williams (free agent) and Elton Brand (makes way too much money just to shoot 10-foot jumpers). But, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, it looks like a decision has been made with Brand.
“The 76ers have decided to use the amnesty clause on Elton Brand and the $18M left on final year of his deal, league sources tell Y! Sports,” Wojnarowski tweets.
Brand is set to make $18 million next season, which is way too much for what he’s bringing to the table. The Sixers need that money to free up some space to sign other free agents. They already signed Nick Young as a shooting guard who can actually throw bombs from the men’s tees. And it looks like both Spencer Hawes fans will be happy that he’s coming back too.
Getting rid of Brand will free up a lot of minutes for Thaddeus Young (still miscast as a four), Lavoy Allen and even rookie Arnett Moultrie.
Teams will be able to bid on Brand on July 11th when that sort of thing is permitted.
