Atogwe signs with Eagles

OJAtogwe 300x278 Atogwe signs with EaglesDespite the fact that the Eagles have spent two second-round picks in the last two years on safeties, the position is still a concern. Jaiquawn Jarrett was taken probably three rounds too high and it shows. Nate Allen showed some ball skills in his 2010 rookie season, but is coming off of a down year after recovering from a knee injury.

So, for Eagles fans who wanted a bit more help there, they’ll get it. The team has signed former St. Louis Ram and Washington Redskin O.J. Atogwe.

“Just got a text from former ‪#Redskins‬ FS and new ‪#Eagles‬ S, Oshiomogho Atogwe, confirming the earlier report. “It is true” @ESPNRadio980,” tweets Chris Russell.

The Redskins signed him to a five-year, $26 million last offseason, but cut him after he only started eight games. This just goes to show you how important those big NFL contracts are.

Atogwe used to be a pretty big playmaker for the Rams, but injuries have eroded his skills. He’ll make a great backup and spot starter if needed. It’s the Eagles we’re talking about, so any safety addition will be an improvement.
