Nationals designate Lidge for assignment

Brad Lidge was once one of the best closers in all of baseball. In 2008, he didn’t blow a single save in the regular season or the playoffs and he helped power the Philadelphia Phillies to a World Series title.

But, those days are long gone. Injuries have caught up with him and he’s just never been right with the Washington Nationals. And, apparently someone in the Nationals organization noticed. According to Amanda Comak of the Washington Times, they have designated him for assignment.

“Hearing ‪#nats‬ have designated Brad Lidge for assignment. Nothing official from team yet,” she tweets.

Lidge never got his command together for the Natties and appeared in just 11 games after signing as a free agent this offseason. We expect someone to have interest as he’s extremely effective when healthy.
