Gerhart has to be the guy early on for Vikings
Minnesota Vikings FB/RB Toby Gerhart is looking a little bigger in the upper body this year as many reporters have noted. He joked the other day that he wanted to get the guns going a little bit.
And it looks like he’ll have to. According to head coach Leslie Frazier, Gerhart will probably have to carry the load in the early part of the season while Adrian Peterson recovers from ACL/MCL/Meniscus surgery.
“He’s still a developing guy,” Frazier said of Gerhart. “And there are some things we’re going to find out in these OTAs. Before we send him home and come back to training camp, we’ll give him a prescribed weight. But we wanted to take a look at him at where he is right now and just see how it would affect his quickness. Because there’s a very good chance he’s going to have to really carry the load early on.”
We’re still wondering where Peterson could go in fantasy drafts this year. We’ll know more as the season approaches. He screwed his knee up late last season and these things take time, so he could be a candidate for PUP. That would slide Gerhart of the draft boards, but not too far, because the Vikings still blow.
