Redskins going after big free agent WR?
File this under “Duh.” The Washington Redskins have one of the worst wide-receiving groups in the entire NFL. Santana Moss is old and can’t separate like he used to, even though he’s not worthless. But that’s it. After the colossal failures of 2008 second-round picks Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly, they’ve just been bringing in retreads and nobodies.
So the fact that sources tell the Washington Post that the team plans to target a high-profile wide receiver in free agency in a year where there will be a decent amount to choose from is not shocking.
Vincent Jackson could be available. Marques Colston could be out there. And the blog post even mentions Pierre Garcon, but if he really turned down $30+ million from the Colts, the Redskins could have to overpay. But Garcon is hardly all that and the Redskins like to overpay those types of players so don’t rule it out.
I also can’t rule out them going after DeSean Jackson. They need a game breaker and while he has his faults, he is indeed a game changer. Plus, he’s torched the Redskins in the past, so Dan Snyder will have him on his radar.
Regardless of who it is, the Redskins absolutely have to bring someone in to help their awful passing game. Getting someone who can actually throw the ball would help too.
