Smith signing has nothing to do with Maclin
The Philadelphia Eagles continued their buying bonanza today when they signed former New York Giant WR Steve Smith. It’s a one-year deal as Smith is coming off of microfracture surgery, but it’s clearly an upside move for the Birds.
With the signing, however, many have speculated that this is a sign that Jeremy Maclin is much sicker than the team has let on. But, according to CSNPhilly.com’s Reuben Frank, Smith’s addition has “absolutely nothing” do to with Maclin’s health and well being.
“A high-placed team source said Smith signing has “absolutely nothing” to do with Maclin’s status,” Frank tweets.
Smith caught 107 balls in 2009 and emerged as one of the better wide receivers in the NFL. But, he’s currently on the PUP list and the Giants obviously thought he wasn’t close to returning. He hasn’t been ruled out for Week 1 yet and the Eagles are hopeful that he can contribute early on.
