Goalie scores from 90 yards out for Earthquakes
This is great. Thanks to our buddy Chris Tegley for tipping us off on this one (we saw him post it on Facebook, he didn’t actually tip us off on shit directly). Rookie goalie David Bingham from the San Jose Earthquakes scored a goal in his first ever match on Tuesday from 90 yards out in an exhibition match against West Bromwich Albion. They ended up winning 2-1.
Bingham grabbed an errant pass and then blasted a punt from the top of his box. Boaz Myhill, who is now known as the goalie that got scored on by another goalie, had the sun in his eyes and the ball bounced right over his head and ended up in the back of the net.
“I couldn’t believe it,” San Jose midfielder Simon Dawkins said. “I thought the referee had stopped the game.”
Bingham was actually pissed off at himself for overshooting his offense on the punt.
“I didn’t even see it go in,” Bingham said. “I hit it and I knew I overhit it, so I just turned around and walked back. And then everyone started yelling. . . . Sometimes it’s good to be lucky.”
Good for you. Too bad it wasn’t in a game that counted, but that’s splitting hairs.
