Islanders suspend Nabokov
This is quite the little story brewing out on Long Island, huh? Goaltender Evgeni Nabokov spent most of this season with St. Petersburg in the KHL. On January 20th, he signed with the Detroit Red Wings.
However, because he played in the KHL, he had to clear waivers before joining an NHL team. So a couple days later, the New York Islanders picked him up. But, Nabokov clearly wasn’t thrilled because he has refused to report to the team.
So, the Islanders have now suspended him.
Nabokov needs to be careful. If the Islanders want, they can toll the 35-year old’s contract and keep him under their possession for the 2011-12 season. It’s probably safe to say he wouldn’t like that.
This one ain’t over.
