Torn ACL for Phillips?

Bad news for Dallas Cowboys fans. The team didn’t escape Sunday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals unscathed. Backup tight end John Phillips went down with an injury and, according to Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News, it’s likely an ACL tear.

Phillips is still scheduled for an MRI, but it doesn’t look good.

“I’m going to stay positive and wait for [Monday] and see what the doctors get confirmed,” Phillips said. “Regardless of what they say something’s got to be confirmed on a screen so until they show it to me, I’m going to stay positive.”

This is great news for Martellus Bennett, who was in danger of losing his job backing up Jason Witten. Bennett didn’t play because of an ankle injury and Phillips did a great job when he was in there. He caught four balls for 60 yards before going down with the injury.
