Done deal, Phillies get Oswalt for Happ and two prospects
Finally, the rumors are over and the deal is done. According to Ken Rosenthal of Foxsports.com, Roy Oswalt is the newest member of the Philadelphia Phillies. And yes, that includes even Domonic Brown, who just came up to the team yesterday.
“The players in the Oswalt deal, which is still not official: J.A. Happ, OF Anthony Gose, SS Jonathan Villan [sic]. #Phillies #Astros #MLB,” Rosenthal tweets.
A few minutes later he tweeted, “done deal.”
The names Happ and Gose have popped up repeatedly, but Villar is a new one. Villar is 19-years old and was hitting .272/.332/.358 with two homers, 36 RBI and 38 stolen bases with Single-A Lakewood this year.
And as far as that $16 million option for 2012? It’s a mutual option and, with this trade, will increase from $1 million to $2 million if the Phils pick it up and Oswalt declines.
This is the third major acquisition the Phillies have made in the last calendar year. Last year at this time they traded for Cliff Lee. In the offseason, they acquired Roy Halladay. Now? It’s Roy Oswalt. Welcome to the Phillies.
