NBA referees locked out, Perry’s thoughts

On Friday, the National Basketball Association, also known as the NBA, locked out their referees.  Boston Celtics forward Rasheed Wallace was seen celebrating shortly after.

OTR is not going into the details of why the referees got locked out, because quite frankly with Stephen A. Smith who cares, they’re referees.  Does it matter what they are paid?  Does it matter what their retirement benefits are?  Does it matter that they usually suck at refereeing?  Actually, yes, that last one does matter.

Quite honestly, NBA referees are probably the worst officials in all of sports.  This lock out could be an easy way to just clean house.  However, we know this is not going to happen.

So what’s next?  Non-union referees will now replace the vacancies.  Most of them are coming from the WNBA and the D-League.  One of them will be coming from a Tampa, Florida recovery house.  Yes, Tim Donaghy.  Actually, no, that was a joke.

What good comes out of this?  Well, after watching the entire WNBA season this year I can tell you the NBA will be getting some of the best referees who ever officiated the game of horribly boring.  I would rather watch a reality TV show starring a dwarf looking for a dwarf bride than the WNBA.  Wait…what, there was such a show?  Did it star Nate Robinson?

If you are worried about this lock out, don’t be.  It will not last long.  An agreement will be reached before the preseason begins.  If not before the preseason, then definitely before the regular season.  The NBA will not let 1995 happen again.  It was a disaster.
