Cowboys cut Ellis

GregEllisThe Cowboys strongly hinted that they aren’t interested in Greg Ellis playing any more for them. How do we know? They cut him. It was a very, very strong hint.

Ellis was a first-round pick in 1998 out of North Carolina, but the Cowboys wanted the some $5 million in cap space that releasing him created. He won Comeback Player of the Year in 2007 after he posted 12.5 sacks following a season that was ruined with an Achilles issue.

The Cowboys seem to be ready to hand the LB spot across from DeMarcus Ware to 2007 first-round pick Anthony Spencer. Maybe he’s ready, maybe he’s not. But either way, they are getting pretty thin at that spot.

Let’s do the easy thing and link Ellis to the Patriots because that’s what everyone does when an aging pass rusher is on the market.
