Orton not the opening day starter?
- Updated: May 30, 2009
When the Broncos shipped that decent QB who looks like a total dufus to the Bears a couple months ago and received Kyle Orton in exchange, it was assumed that he would be the starter. Well now, according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, it’s not so certain as Chris Simms could be making a push for playing time.
So did Simms overtake Orton for the starting job?
“No,” Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said. “Same thing. Both of them will take reps with the (first team), and we’re going to keep doing that until it becomes clear and apparent, and it’s not yet. They’re both doing some good things, and they’re both making some mistakes. When one seems to put himself ahead of the other, then it will be an easy decision.”
Uhhh….really? Everyone just assumed that Orton was the guy. Simms hasn’t played since September 2006. The fact that it’s a close race even in mini camps says quite a bit. Maybe McDaniels is trying to push Orton by saying that. We doubt it because it seems that both are getting a lot of reps with the first team.
Something to keep an eye on. Especially if it’s the 10th round of your fantasy draft and you haven’t taken a QB yet.
